Fair enough - MMA isn't something that suddenly appeared in America, nor was it 'invented' by the US of A (hello - Vale Tudo, anyone?) However, the US is pretty much now the home of MMA, in popular terms at least. Let's not get into the obvious fact that every country on the planet has its own flavour of MMA, going by another name...

So, what is a groundfighter anyway? Self-explanatory, really: any combat sport practitioner who includes a knowledge of techniques necessary to manage the very different fighting environment encountered upon the loss of an upright position. Yes, it's a mouthful, but a definition's got to be clear and accurate, right?
